BW Wednesday Bird at Bodega Bay

This little fella or gal (not sure because I don’t know birds that well) didn’t mind just standing there and posing for me when we visited Bodega Bay, California on my first ever trip to California.

18 Years of Catching Up

So when the kids are all grown and moved away, we decided it was time for the parents to go play. So we did. We bought a little campsite close to a fun and busy lake, a pontoon boat, a camper, and a golf cart. And the fun began, and it lasted for 18 years. Partying on the lake and off the lake with friends. That’s how we pretty much spent our 50’s and 60’s.

Along the way, though, the home site was very neglected. And, playing catch up in our 70’s is pretty much a moot point, but we’re trying. And on a very skinny budget. In the hottest, dog days of Summer, this is what has been happening keeping us busy this July.

New Roof – Hired it done
Painting House Trim Two Coats – Hubby and I did the work
Tearing Out What Use To Be The Rec Room Entrance – Hubby and I
Installing A Garage Door – Hubby and I
Tearing Up Carpet in what use to be the rec room, but now is a garage again – Hubby and I
Scrapping Up Glue from carpet – Hubby and Mostly me (ongoing)
Painting Trim on the high pitch ends of the house – Grandson and Son

Reason for changing the Rec Room back into a garage was that the previous owner who changed it to a room didn’t put in a footer so because of that, the freeze and thaw over the years was causing the outside wall to start moving. During the winter, we had to tear out the fireplace that was in the room and we knew when Summer came we’d be changing it back to a garage.

This has kept us busy the month of July, as well as other things going on.

More Leisure Days:

When my 4th grandson was born, his parents were staying with us so this grandbaby came home to our house. He and his mom was with us on and off for pretty much 8 years due to a divorce so I spent a lot of my first retirement years enjoying this little one. Our fun times were to go to the park and take walks on the one that has a trail that leads down to the Dam. Even though I no longer have him full time, and he is turning 10 this year, he still likes to come visit. He loves my craft area, and scrapbooking supplies. So this Summer was no different…we visited our favorite play park and trail. Below is a collage of him that I titled ‘Then and Now’

Whimsical

Below is a drawing that I learned from a tutorial that was shared in the Bible journaling group that I follow called His Kingdom Come. She actually was my third attempt after I re-watched the tutorial. I’ve never tried drawing anything before, but I think she turned out pretty good. Hope you like her. 🙂

The flowers on her dress are from a tutorial found on YouTube.

My GOD is changeless in his LOVE for me,
and he will come and help me.
Psalm 39:10

If you like trying new things, I found a tutorial on how to apply foil to your graphics.

Things I’ve been up to besides trying my hand at painting and drawing:

  • Painting the trim on our house
  • Enjoying a walk with the grandson (it’s kind of an annual Summer event with us) (see picture below of now vs when smaller) He’s growing up so fast.
  • Enjoying patio lounging and swim time with the hubby
  • Playing ball with Razzy. He loves being outside and running.

Just enjoying the beauty in our every day retirement. We laughingly say we are on staycation that will be a years-long staycations since retirement funds don’t really allow for vacations.

Intriguing

Window beads 1

Or at least I thought intriguing. You know how it is when the weather just doesn’t seem nice enough for an outdoor photo shoot? Well, that’s when I start looking for things around the house to photograph, and that is the way it was the day I took this picture. It is straight out of my camera (no cropping; no photoshop) of moisture beads on my kitchen window. To my eye, it did not look like this, but when I took the pictures from my camera to the computer, some look like tiny shells. Or at least I think so. Always love what the naked eye doesn’t see, but the camera does. I love, love photography. Always have.

California Surprise and Little Friend

Bird at Bodega Bay Textured

In March my wonderful daughter surprised me with a phone call asking if I would want to fly to California with her to visit her brother (my son) who moved there last Summer (she was paying). It was her son’s Spring break from grade school, and she had a week’s vacation. Neither of us had ever flown, and I was apprehensive before giving an answer because I’ve always swore I would never, ever fly on a plane. When young, I wasn’t afraid of heights, but over the years had become moreso. She was surprised when I said right away that I would go. She said she thought I would say no because of my fear of flying. I will admit the weeks leading up to the date we were to fly out, I was wondering what in the world am I doing. Will I have a panic attack? Will I not want to fly back home and then have to rent a car or something? Will I just have to call the hubby and tell him I cannot fly back so I’m staying indefinitely? 🙂

Reasons I said yes.

  • I knew that since it was her first time flying that as a mom there was no way I was letting her go alone even though she is 30 years old, and the grandson is 7. I would have worried too much about it. That was mainly my reason for saying yes.
  • My son’s daughter is the newest grand-daughter of just over one years old, and I hadn’t seen her since she was only a few months old.
  • After the frigid cold winter we’d just been through and having cabin fever, I was ready to go anywhere even if it meant taking a plane.

So, off we flew. It was thee most amazing thing, and I swore I’d never look out a plane window, but I did and it was awesome. And, hubby had to put up with me because I did make the flight back home.

California is beautiful and if I were younger, I think I would have no problem moving there. The little fellow in my photo was so obliging when my son took us to visit a Lighthouse. He just sat there as if posing for the few pictures that I took of him.

Sharing with Texture Tuesday and is textured with Kim’s kk_0603.

Stretch

Heron at Lake for StretchIf I stretch my neck downward

A fish I might soon see

And with my beak catch it

But am I really that hungry?

Or would I rather Stretch, Soar

Decisions are hard on sunny days

Choices are to Eat or Play

Then with Wings outstretched for flight

Decision is made ~ Stretch and Soar

Heron at Lake for Stretch then I flew

Breeze

peeking for six word friday

‘BREEZE’

He peeked out through the tree

Wondering if there was a Breeze

The wind softly touched his beak

I’ll take a chance, he thought

Softly the Breeze caught his wings

First flight and he loved it

Soaring high like mama showed him

Then sadly realizing he hadn’t moved

It was his mind that soared

He still sat in the tree

Tomorrow he thought; tomorrow for sure

Friday Finds

Friday FindsI’ve always loved thrifting; especially now that we are retired and on limited budget. I’m getting really spoiled about even going to the mainstream stores anymore. Plus, I am sometimes amazed at what people get rid of, but than, I’ve gotten rid of some nice things myself. I use to try having a garage sale to eliminate things I no longer wanted, then I turned to eBay…some things I still try to sell, but mostly, I just donate to Goodwill or Salvation Army or to a Thrift Store.

I’ve been wanting to buy what they call a stock pot, but found they run anywhere from $40 on up. I’d only been thinking of getting one for the past few weeks, but I knew if I bided my time one would show up at the Thrift store. This week, it did. It’s just the right size, stainless steel, and even has the smaller insert. It will be more helpful with making spaghetti or even to use just for making soup.

I found it for $4 plus a couple more goodies. A small cute night-light, and a paper towel holder plus they had their books 4 for $1.00. I’m a reader as well as loving crafts and photos. I was a happy camper. I also found my son among the 4 for $1.00 books a larger family Bible. I can’t wait for him and his wife to receive it. I’m thinking I’ll just mail it for a surprise. They live in CA.

Love when I can get a bargain. 🙂

Happy Friday, Happy Thrifting, and Thanks a Bunch for stopping by ~

Until next time
