18 Years of Catching Up

So when the kids are all grown and moved away, we decided it was time for the parents to go play. So we did. We bought a little campsite close to a fun and busy lake, a pontoon boat, a camper, and a golf cart. And the fun began, and it lasted for 18 years. Partying on the lake and off the lake with friends. That’s how we pretty much spent our 50’s and 60’s.

Along the way, though, the home site was very neglected. And, playing catch up in our 70’s is pretty much a moot point, but we’re trying. And on a very skinny budget. In the hottest, dog days of Summer, this is what has been happening keeping us busy this July.

New Roof – Hired it done
Painting House Trim Two Coats – Hubby and I did the work
Tearing Out What Use To Be The Rec Room Entrance – Hubby and I
Installing A Garage Door – Hubby and I
Tearing Up Carpet in what use to be the rec room, but now is a garage again – Hubby and I
Scrapping Up Glue from carpet – Hubby and Mostly me (ongoing)
Painting Trim on the high pitch ends of the house – Grandson and Son

Reason for changing the Rec Room back into a garage was that the previous owner who changed it to a room didn’t put in a footer so because of that, the freeze and thaw over the years was causing the outside wall to start moving. During the winter, we had to tear out the fireplace that was in the room and we knew when Summer came we’d be changing it back to a garage.

This has kept us busy the month of July, as well as other things going on.

More Leisure Days:

When my 4th grandson was born, his parents were staying with us so this grandbaby came home to our house. He and his mom was with us on and off for pretty much 8 years due to a divorce so I spent a lot of my first retirement years enjoying this little one. Our fun times were to go to the park and take walks on the one that has a trail that leads down to the Dam. Even though I no longer have him full time, and he is turning 10 this year, he still likes to come visit. He loves my craft area, and scrapbooking supplies. So this Summer was no different…we visited our favorite play park and trail. Below is a collage of him that I titled ‘Then and Now’

April Collage for Mona’s Picturesque

April Collage for Mona's

Didn’t really have much going on this month. My car needed brake line repair so haven’t been out much to take pictures in a while. Thanks to the hubby though who finally got my car fixed. Bless his heart even with his illness, he just keeps plugging along and has been able to work on it since the weather turned nice this week. I am thrilled to have a vehicle again.

I was able to use hubby’s pick-up (I’m short and I don’t really like using it much ~ the climbing in and out) to visit my son’s Church on Easter Sunday. It was an inspiring, joyous message that morning…Praise Jesus. He stayed after, and I drove home the long way and found this covered bridge that I’d been wanting to see. It was such a beautiful sunny day, and after being sick most all of March with the flu, I hadn’t been out so I tarried along the way for a nice drive in the country.

Pop on over to Mona’s Picturesque and share your Month of April collage or just see what others are sharing.

Happy 1st of May….and finally we’re heading into warmer weather. yay!!!

Sometimes Editing Not Needed?

Morning Stroll

trees n butterflies for TT

While camping, I decided to take a morning stroll at the campgrounds that is beside our little place at the Lake. It’s a three mile walk around a Nature trail. Since I was by myself, decided best to not really go too far in since I wasn’t sure what I’d find in the brush. Maybe if someone will go with me, I’ll go back. hahaha ~ I’m such a chicken if I’d see a snake ~ Anyway, sharing this one I took that morning (I added the butterfly brush). It is textured with Kim’s rainy day to share with Texture Tuesday.

Opening to the path that I decided not to enter…looked too weedy like not kept up or no visitors had been trodding down the path when I peeked in.

Breeze

peeking for six word friday

‘BREEZE’

He peeked out through the tree

Wondering if there was a Breeze

The wind softly touched his beak

I’ll take a chance, he thought

Softly the Breeze caught his wings

First flight and he loved it

Soaring high like mama showed him

Then sadly realizing he hadn’t moved

It was his mind that soared

He still sat in the tree

Tomorrow he thought; tomorrow for sure

WEIRD

weird but interesting weed

Another of my ‘Weeds’ photos

I have no idea what weed this is, and since I don’t know my weeds or plants very well, I wonder if this is one that might be or has been used as an herb or for medicinal purposes in years past. Looks like tiny green pumpkins growing on it. And, the stem is kind of a creamy yellow color.

When I see a field of weeds and wild flowers, it brings to mind the many books that I’ve read that has the woman living back in the woods that everyone went to in the prairie days for medicine. One such book that is very good is The Frontiersman’s Daughter by Laura Frantz

Baby Robins are Born

DSC00147

If you followed my other post about the nest on my hose hanger, the babies are finally here. Mommy Robin has faithfully sat on those 4 eggs, and now has four babies. Finally, she got off long enough so I could capture this picture. Maybe I can get a video or other photos of her feeding the babies.

I’m just hoping they can fly away soon and I can have the use of my hose now that it’s Spring and things need hosed down. ~smiles~

🙂

Happy Spring
