I am one that has never done Black Friday nor have I ever wanted to do Black Friday shopping. But, there is an However, this year. Some months back, I saw on YouTube how to do foiling, and I loved the idea. She showed that you could do it with using a regular lamination machine rather than having to buy the machine created for that purpose. So, the thrifter that I am, the next few days, I saw a laminator in Goodwill that someone had thrown away. They were on sale at the local store for $17, which isn’t bad at all, but this one was less than $10 ~ I’m thinking maybe I paid between $4 – $7 for it. I forget. Anyway, taking the chance, I purchased it. Her video shows that you have to use a Laser printer for this to work. I didn’t have a Laser printer, but she said just take what you want printed to an office supply store and they will copy for you for reasonable. So, I did. I decided what I wanted to foil, and I took it to Office Depot. The nice clerk made my copies. When I tried them at home though, the foil wouldn’t completely cover and foil. They did not look nice at all like the gal in the video’s did. That was this past Summer.

So, I started looking at Laser printers. I thought I could snag one for less than $100 because more than that I couldn’t justify the need for one just to make now and again foil pretties. But, then I thought, I’ll keep an eye on them and maybe, just maybe, I’ll find a bargain closer to the holidays. Voila, Black Friday came and a local office store had one for $64. I went to get the one that was $59 marked down from $99, but it wasn’t a Laser after all. So, I did go Black Friday shopping and snagged my Laser Samsung printer. I didn’t buy the toner yet (it comes loaded with a sample toner) because if it doesn’t foil…it’s going back to the store.

Tonight though, I tried it out, and it works beautifully. I tried it on a Christmas card that I designed. Hope you can tell how pretty the foil looks. The photo makes it a bit darker than the gold that I used. I’m including the link to her video if anyone wants to give this process a try. I think it would be great for cards, notes, Bible Journaling, etc. I also saw a video where you can use it on transparency paper made for laser printers and then include in a card as a see through.

Below is a drawing that I learned from a tutorial that was shared in the Bible journaling group that I follow called His Kingdom Come. She actually was my third attempt after I re-watched the tutorial. I’ve never tried drawing anything before, but I think she turned out pretty good. Hope you like her. 🙂

Things I’ve been up to besides trying my hand at painting and drawing:

• Painting the trim on our house
• Enjoying a walk with the grandson (it’s kind of an annual Summer event with us) (see picture below of now vs when smaller) He’s growing up so fast.
• Enjoying patio lounging and swim time with the hubby
• Playing ball with Razzy. He loves being outside and running.

Just enjoying the beauty in our every day retirement. We laughingly say we are on staycation that will be a years-long staycations since retirement funds don’t really allow for vacations.
