A few years ago, I was at a loss of what to make the granddaughter for her birthday. I ended up deciding to sew something for her as a personal gift from me to her. You see, I had just met that granddaughter the prior Christmas. My son was marrying her mom so that made her my granddaughter. Below is a picture of my new granddaughters that I decided to use for the sewing project.
I cropped it so that it only showed Hannah and then I mirrored the image so that I ended up with this:
Then I had to erase the image from around her so that I only had her in the photograph to end up with this:
to which I added her name and then I used my brushes in Adobe Photoshop CS5 to add these flowers and ended up with this:
At that point, I was ready to print the image onto the sew-in fabric. Once I’d printed it, then I could decide whether to make her a handbag or pillow or whatever for her birthday. I ended up doing a pillow. See below.
Hannah’s birthday pillow. She liked it….
Since that time I’ve sold some, and also made one for my daughter and her guy this past Christmas (below). On the daughter’s pillow, I did put a pocket on the back and told them it was for passing messages/love notes. I just thought that might be a cute idea since my hubby and I always passed notes even after married. 🙂
If you decide to make your own, they’re fairly simple. All it takes is a photo, some sew in photo fabric which you can get at JoAnn Fabric or I’ve also seen them at WalMart and Meijer, and a favorite material. If you make one, I’d love to have you stop back and share your pillow on Peabea’s Patch. 🙂
